OncoLink Palliative Care Hospital

Oncolink Palliative Care Hospital - A People’s Initiative

Community based Oncolink Palliative Care Hospital has been running since 2016 with a license of 20 beds along with OPD and home based care facilities under The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Act 1950, License No. 33615074.

It is situated at Vill- Teghari, PO- Madanpur, Dist- Nadia, PIN- 741245, a distance by train from Sealdah to Madanpur Raliway Station, 50 km and by road it is 60km via NH 34 (Birohi More to Madanpur).

As a social organization Oncolink has come forward, challenging the established norms of curative hospital, to provide this care and facility to the patients when curative treatment is no longer beneficial to them. In that sense this is the only dedicated hospital for palliative care in West Bengal. The idea of community based Oncolink Palliative Care Hospital has been designed on ashramite concept, away from the din and bustle of the city life.

The Team

Oncolink believes that palliative care can best be provided when there is participation from different levels of the community alongside the physical care of the patient. It is a multi disciplinary team effort where there are specialized doctors, general physicians, nurses and health workers on the one hand and, on the other, there are social workers, spiritual counselors, cultural workers and trained volunteers. It refers to the comprehensive management of the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and existential needs of the patient.

Each member of the team recognizes and accepts a fiduciary relationship with the patient and the family members while maintaining professional boundaries with them. The training of team members and family members in this regard will be mandatory and a continuous process.

In Patient Care

When patient’s management turns beyond control at home or at community setting, admission of the patients to the palliative care hospital will be encouraged. Day care facility is also available as per need and recommendation of the physician.

Out Patient Care

The out-patient clinic will provide the service to those patients who do not need admission as in-patient care.

Home based Care

In a society like that of ours home is the setting in which most of the patients choose to receive this care until their last breathe. Oncolink also encourages home based care by ensuring the involvement of the family members and the community.
