Oncolink provides free clinic cum counseling to the patients and their families twice every week in Kolkata. The clinics are held every Saturday at 66, DurgaCharan Doctor Road, Kolkata-700014 and every Thursday at NiramoyBhavan, 38/1 Sultan Alam Road, Kolkata-700033.
Since treatment of cancer is institutional Oncolink refers the patients to the member and friend oncologists at different government hospitals.
Proper guidance and counseling to the patients and their families are needed at different stages
Early detection is the most important part in the treatment protocol of the disease. The sooner the case is detected there is more scope to fight the disease. To this effect Oncolink conducts early detection camps of cervix and breast cancer with the help of both private and public modalities. The positive cases are brought to the purview of treatment under the government set ups
Prevention of cancer isone important aspect for any disease, especially for cancer.Oncolink organises different training programmes related to symptoms and treatment for cancer, especially for breast, cervix, head and neck etc. which are preventable if diagnosed earlier. Oncolink also organises training programme on Palliative care for the health, community workers and others to ensure better management of the patients during terminal illness
Oncolink in association with Bharat Sevashram Sangha runs Niramoy Bhavan, a temporary accommodation for cancer patients under treatment in Govt. A free clinic cum counseling centre for pain management is run there once in every week. Oncolink also organizes interactive discussions and cultural programmes to boost up the morale of the patients and their family members
Oncolink always engages in the basic as well as epidemiological research on cancer.
i. Role of Antioxidant Vitamin A & E as adjuvant in radiotherapy for patients of head and neck cancer. The project was conducted with the help of Dept. of Radiotherapy, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital and Dept. of Biochemistry, Calcutta University.
ii. Evaluation of Environmental Nitrogen dioxide, Carbon dioxide, Lead and Benzene exposure of population in Kolkata by Biological Monitoring Technique. The project was undertaken by Dept. of Occupational Health and All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health. Oncolink was the co-organizer of the research.
iii. Health Assessment and Pollution camps in Villages. The project was financially assisted by Deptt of Enviornment, Govt of West Bengal.
iv. Awareness Programme among School students beased on their Knowledge, belief and perception. The project was financially assisted by Dept. of Science & Technology and NES, Govt. of West Bengal.
v. Early Detection of Cervical Cancer at Chakdah Block, Dist. Nadia. The project covered a female population of 22,000 in nineteen Panchayats and one Municipality under Chakdah Block, Nadia. It was a WHO model of screening through VIA test. The project was financially assisted by National Rural Health Mission, Govt of India.
